Port Klang Port Klang is a town and the main gateway by sea into Malaysia. It was called Port Swettenham earlier the busiest and the largest port in country. Port Klang is situated in Klang district in Selangor state It is located about 6 kilometers (3.7 mi) southwest of the town of Klang, and 38 kilometers (24 mi) southwest of Kuala Lumpur.
It was also the 26th busiest port in by total cargo tonnage handled in 2005. The total capacity of the port is 109,700,000 tons of cargo in 2005 compared to 550,000 tons. Port Klang is served by many KTM Komuter stations that connect it to Kuala Lumpur, Shah Alam, Petaling Jaya, and other areas of Klang Valley.
The Port Klang Authority administers three ports in the Port Klang area namely Northport, Southpoint and Westport. Prior to the establishment of the Port Klang Authority, South Port was the only existing port and was administered by the Malayan Railway Administration. Both Westport and Northport have been privatized and managed as separate entities.
Port Klang Free Zone Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) is a 1,000-acre (4.0 km2) regional industrial park and integrated free zone located in Malaysia. It offers extensive distribution and manufacturing facilities. It is situated along the Straits of Malacca, Port Klang, Klang, Malaysia.
The PKFZ was previously managed by Jebel Ali Free Zone Authority (JAFZA). However, it was taken over and rebranded by a local company in 2007.The PKFZ offers various investment incentives to investors such as tax exemptions on most products and services, subsidies, allowing wholly foreign owned enterprises, free repatriation of capital and profits and incentives for research and development, training and export. The port is easily accessible to Kuala Lumpur International Airport. The port is also connected to Northport and Westport in Port Klang. Port of Tanjung Pelepas The Port of Tanjung Pelepas is a port for container ships located on the eastern side of the Pulai River in south-western Johor, Malaysia. Receiving its maiden vessel on 10 October 1999 on a three-month trial operation, it set a world record as the fastest growing port with 1 million twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) of containers handled after 571 days of operations.
The total capacity of the port is over 8 million TEU annually. Port of Tanjung Pelepas has placed itself as an alternative to Singapore’s terminals
The good performance sealed the port’s fate, and it was officially launched by then Prime Minister of Malaysia, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, on13 March 2000. In 2002, Evergreen Marine Corporation, then the world’s second largest shipping company after Maersk, also shifted its operations to PTP from Singapore.
Johor Port Johor Port is located at Pasir Gudang in the southwest of Johor in Peninsular Malaysia. Built by the Johor Port Authority and run by Johor Port Berhad in 1977 it is the first port in Johor and is designed as a multi-purpose port that caters to practically all types of cargo.
It is the first port in country to be located within a free trade zone. Johor Port’s warehouses are exempted from customs duties. Duty is charge only when the cargo is released from the warehouse area for local utilization. The annual capacity of the terminal is about 1,000,000 TEU. The port has berths totaling 2.4 km with about 200,000 square meters of storage facilities.
In January 1993, Johor Port Sdn Bhd, a fully government-owned company, took over all port facilities and services from Johor Port Authority which was established in 1973. The port was fully privatized in August 1995 to Seaport Terminal (Johor) Sdn. Bhd. which became the holding company of Johor Port Berhad. As of April 2005, Seaport Terminal (Johor) Sdn. Bhd. is the biggest shareholder, with 51.74% shareholding.
